ONCOLOGY MASSAGE
Oncology Massage aims at providing deep relaxation for people experiencing cancer or who have a history of cancer. Gentle and slow techniques are used to ensure that the treatment works within the client's limitations.
This very light and nurturing technique is especially useful in dealing with pain reduction and reducing fatigue, nausea and anxiety in a relaxed and comfortable environment. It is also extremely important to take into consideration past history of cancer and associated treatments in order to provide safe massage.

PATIENTS UNDERGOING TREATMENT:
Massage can safely be performed at any stage including where tumours or medical devices are present by providing the client with comfortable positioning.
Massage is useful in aiding the client to deal with the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
Massage can assist the client in dealing with pain reduction, nausea, anxiety, depression, fatigue and sleep difficulties. Many oncology patients also feel stiff and sore from the rigours of treatment and inactivity. A gentle massage can increase the feeling of well being and ease these tensions.
Massage aids with deep relaxation and provides the client with a retreat from the medical and familial stresses of dealing with cancer.
CLIENTS WITH A HISTORY OF CANCER:
Some special considerations are required for people who have a history of cancer. These include the level of pressure applied to the area involved and takes into account various other safety concerns, such as lymph node removal.
MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE:
It is important for those clients who have had lymph nodes removed as part of their treatment, or who have had radiotherapy, to keep on top of their lymphatic health. Some Manual Lymphatic Drainage techniques may be incorporated into an Oncology Massage if required.
