MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) Massage is an advanced therapy which promotes the drainage of stagnant fluids, proteins, foreign substances, germs and toxins from the body and enhances and strengthens the immune system. The movement of the lymphatic fluid detoxifies the body by filtering the waste products and stimulates hormonal immunity, activates antigens and regenerates tissues.
MLD is achieved by manually stimulating the lymph nodes and rhythmically pushing the fluid through the lymphatic system for filtering at a faster than normal rate. The technique causes the lymphatic network to enlarge and carry more lymph fluid. The human body normally moves approximately 1.5 litres of lymph fluid per day but after Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage up to 25 to 30 litres of lymphatic fluid may pass through the lymphatic system in the same amount of time.
As many of the lymph vessels are just under the skin this technique requires very slow, gentle and rhythmical pumping strokes. These lymph vessels are all over your body but primarily, on the front of your body. Many of the lymph nodes are in clusters, in sensitive areas, such as around your breasts, your groin and armpits. Before consenting to treatment, your therapist will explain the sequence and theory of the treatment. We encourage you to ask your therapist questions about the treatment so that you can make an informed decision to begin treatment. You will be required to provide your express consent prior to the treatment commencing.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is both preventative and remedial and can enhance your overall wellbeing. Furthermore MLD:
